Hernán began his expedition back in mid-April to fulfill one of his greatest dreams of conquering the summit of Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world.
Following an expedition marked by bad weather, there was finally a very short climatic window of only a couple of days, which allowed Hernán to reach the summit of Kanchenjunga on May 15 and become the first Chilean to achieve this milestone.
In addition, Leal is the first South American to break the record of climbing four eight-thousanders in one year after having conquered the summits of Cho Oyu, Everest and Lhotse, all of which are in China and Nepal..
HHernán discovered a passion for mountaineering on a trip to Nepal. He unwittingly became one of the seven Chileans to have successfully completed the 7 Summits, referring to the highest summits of each continent and the two poles. Through this journey, he reached the summits of Aconcagua in South America, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Denali in North America, Elbrus in Eastern Europe, Everest in Asia and Carstensz in Oceania. In 2017, the entrepreneur reached these last three summits, and in January 2018 he managed to reach the summit of the Vinson Massif in Antarctica. Having reached this last summit, Hernán Leal reached the goal of the 7 Summits and became the seventh Chilean to accomplish this great challenge. And that’s not all, for in May 2018, he achieved an important record, becoming the first South American to climb Mount Everest and Lhotse in the same expedition.
Later in September of the same year, he conquered the summit of the sixth highest mountain in the world, he Cho Oyu, and with this feat he reached 3 summits of 8 thousand meters of altitude in less than 6 months.
